Long Time No Blog

Hokay, talk about blogging backlog — my last update was on March 26, more than a month ago!

Anyway, lemme do a quick, unscientific, offhand recap of the stuff that’s gone on since then:

  • I’ve started studying Tai Chi, which is a Chinese martial art whose name translates roughly to ’supreme ultimate boxing’. Although practiced today by most as a means for maintaining good health, it actually is a martial art with combat applications, despite the slowness of its form’s sequence of movements. Its categorized under ‘internal arts’ or ‘internal martial arts’, in that it emphasizes the use of chi and very subtle but efficient biomechanics, rather than brute strength and power. I’ve only gone and memorized the Yang Style 10-form, but I’m looking to step up to 24-form, after which I plan on really studying the traditional Long Form. More on this in some other post, I guess!
  • I became a regular employee at work already, as opposed to being under probationary status. Apart from the usual benefits of becoming regular, this also entailed shifting to ROHQ status as well. I was kind’a expecting it to be retroactive, since ROHQ was effected in the company last March, instead it only takes effect for me on the time of my regularization, April 16. Its a little inconsistent with what happened with some of the newer hires who got brought in to ROHQ last March, but hey, such is life. :)
  • I’m now off the fruitarian diet. I only like eating fruits that are easy to eat, fruits that you can just pick up and eat without too much fuss. This limits the fruitarian menu for me to several varieties of fruits, and within a month I’d already become saturated with all of them. So there, I’m now back to my regularly scheduled vegetarian diet. Too bad though, the benefits were really great; its just that after a while you get sick of eating the same thing over and over again, which was why I went fruitarian in the first place, because I was getting sick of my usual vegetarian menu. Maybe after a while, I’ll go through a fruitarian cycle again sometime.
  • My knives were confiscated by my boss at work — I no longer play bad/evil cop when dealing with our Clever clients. Well, that’s the idea for now anyway. As long as everybody’s civil in our meetings, I have no problem with playing good cop. Although God knows there have been times when I wanted to flame someone really really badly!
  • I finally got a short story published! It got published over at Aphelion, a sci-fi/fantasy webzine that’s been around forever. Its one of my old favorites where I read short stories at, and I’m really happy I finally got one of my own short stories published there. :)
  • Just yesterday, one of our software engineers left the company, and on his birthday too! It goes without saying that I wish him nothing but the best in everything he wants to pursue in his career!

Annnnd that’s about it I guess. I’ll see if I can blog more regularly in the coming days.
